2008 election results nytimes3/6/2024 ![]() The only incumbent Democrat in Oklahoma's five-member Congressional delegation, Dan Boren, the son of a former Oklahoma governor, won re-election after a campaign in which he emphasized his membership in Congress's Blue Dog Coalition of conservative Democrats. As a solution to the economic crisis, he advocated renewing President Bush's tax cuts. Inhofe blamed the mortgage crisis on federal policies that, he said, forced banks to extend loans to people who could not afford them. Inhofe, a Republican who is one of the most vocal critics in Congress of the theory of global warming, won re-election to a fourth term, defeating State Senator Andrew Rice, a Democrat, and a conservative candidate who ran as an independent, Stephen P. Republicans also won a majority in the State Senate, giving them control of both chambers of the State Legislature for the first time since Oklahoma became a state in 1907. Senator John McCain carried it by a bigger margin, 65.6 percent, than any other. Most of the country shifted Democratic, except for Alaska (Palin's home state), Arizona (John McCain's home state), and those parts of the South without a relatively large black population (racism?).By one measure, Oklahoma is now the most Republican state in the nation. Wikipedia - Check out how the map changed throughout the night. Mark Newman - While not a realtime election returns map, Newman's maps provide a more accurate geographical look at how people voted. Wall Street Journal - Nice stipple portraits of the candidates. I wonder if those photos varied with the current results. Washington Post - Featuring a very smiley Obama and grumpy McCain. USA Today - This map proudly carries on the USA Today's tradition of cramming it in there. Talking Points Memo - They're using Google's map here, but with slightly different shades of red and blue. Google - Functional but not pretty, just like everything else Google does.
